Commonplace book [manuscript], ca. 1710.

Written in an interleaved copy of Joshua Poole's English Parnassus, 1677, which was probably extended into four volumes. This volume includes pages 481-639. Poole's English Parnassus is a printed commonplace book consisting of poetical extracts under subject headings arranged alphabetically. The portion included in this volume runs from "Pale" to "Zoilus" and ends with some forms. This manuscript forms a continuation of Poole, with extracts, both prose and poetry, paralleling Poole's arrangement and in the main under the same subject headings. A system of shorthand is used for articles and other common words. The extracts are identified by symbols, for which a key is suppled inside the back cover, one of the last works listed being Congreve's Works (published 1710)

195 leaves ; 17 x 11 cm.
